While you can still view photos that are in the Pictures folder, the functionality you see on your iPhone that allows you to view your photos by album, people, places, and media types is done through the Photos App. The Pictures folder is where the files are stored, and Photos is an application that allows you to view, manage, tag, and search your photo library. The simplest way to explain it is this, “the Pictures folder is to Photos what the Music folder is to iTunes.” Once I decided to tackle my own family photos, it was time to overcome that fear.
I was afraid that if I made a change, I would lose photos. I didn’t understand the difference between the two, and not knowing made me nervous.
One of the items that confused me the most was that there was a Pictures folder in the finder, plus a Photos icon in the Apps.
